This was one of the happiest, most relaxed weddings I’ve ever had the pleasure of shooting. Nothing but positivity, beaming smiles and laughter – literally all day from the moment I arrived at bridal prep until the moment I left. As a wedding photographer, you always spend the day desperately capturing every natural, candid moment as well as all the details the newlyweds have poured in to their wedding planning. However, James is one of my friends’ brother so that feeling was maximised! I also had giant nerves for the family and for the speech I knew my friend had to do too!
The Wedding Ceremony at Blackthorpe Barn
Family and friends were most important to Becca & James and they planned their wedding celebration with them all at the centre. They had an unplugged ceremony so that there was a real sense of intimacy and love. The barn was filled with lots of tears while the newlyweds said their vows, with fairy lights dangling as the main source of light overhead.
The Group Shots
This wedding at Blackthorpe Barn is the perfect example of when it rains, all is not lost! Especially for group photos and couples portraits! It rained and poured for so long during the drinks reception, but the couple and their guests took it in their stride. One of my favourite images is Becca laughing in the rain after we attempted (and failed) to beat the rain when it stopped for about 30 seconds to quickly get their family shots…
We improvised instead with indoor family portraits, which quite honestly, I’m so glad it rained as they really are beautiful and had it been sunny, they never would have occurred as they did. After dinner, we escaped for their couples portraits. Blackthorpe Barn has so many different spots surrounding the barn that there were so many places to shoot.
The Wedding Reception at Blackthorpe Barn
After everyone was full to the brim after the delicious wedding breakfast – the food at Blackthorpe is just incredible – James started the speeches off and they all had everyone in tears, again!
There were so many cool details at this wedding; from the barrel that their brother in law had renovated for everyone to sign instead of a guest book that they plan to use as a side table in their home, the whisky shots waiting for everyone as they entered to find their seats for the wedding breakfast and the cute felt mice adorning their cheese cake in the evening.
The Evening Wedding Reception
When the evening guests arrived, it was time to cut their cake and get on the dance floor for their first dance as husband and wife. They had a singer and a DJ, and quite frankly I’ve never seen an entire wedding party get up and dance so quickly. They were awesome fun.
