Alternative, heartfelt wedding photography at Dove Barn, Suffolk

Brad & Hannah had the most stylish vintage wedding at Dove Barn in Ipswich, Suffolk. I felt like a very lucky wedding photographer indeed as everything was just so beautiful (them included of course), I can’t wait to shoot at this venue again. They were married surrounded by their loved ones, Hannah with three bridesmaids, Brad with three best men and not forgetting the tiny flower girl and ring bearer too..

Bridal prep was in a barn in the middle of the Suffolk countryside, with Hannah’s parents and bridesmaids all staying with her the night before to give them plenty of time to relax before hand. When I arrived, Hannah was having her make-up and hair done, with a glass of champers in hand and quite rightly so. It was really important to both Hannah and Brad to have the most relaxed photography possible, so in between chatting and finding out all about her and the girls, I just snapped away documenting everything as it happened as is my normal style. I left just after Hannah put on her dress to give me time to head over to Dove Barn to meet Brad & co.

Hannah has since joked that she practically ran up the aisle to get to Brad – wasn’t quite a run but the excitement on that girls face was something else and it was definitely reciprocated by Brad too. They didn’t stop grinning throughout the ceremony and didn’t stop for the rest of the day either. I might have actually shed a little tear behind my camera during the vows ‘cos they just looked so damn happy, but shh..

There was a slight breeze in the air as we took family group shots in the meadow behind the barn, before the pair were showered in confetti and we then left their guests to go indoors to take their seats for dinner. The three of us seized this opportunity for their couples portraits, firstly to pass some time whilst waiting for the guests to be seated and secondly because the clouds overhead were getting darker and darker and it seemed like now or never. I’ve never known a couple to be so lucky, we literally had just taken the last shot and were just inches from the barn when the heavens opened and it rained for the rest of the evening. Fate.
