AN ETHEREAL WEDDING – JOHN & BRIT
If you like the idea of breaking the traditional wedding vibe, look no further. With relaxed photography, gorgeous bohemian styling, ivy galore and The Beatles; you’ll adore this magical, barefoot, outdoor wedding.
John and Brittany got married at the completely unique Keeper and The Dell in Norfolk. It was a super relaxed but crazy fun festival style wedding, with a magical, pagan hand fasting and jumping-the-broom ceremony. I’ve known John & Brit for years, so I was super pumped to be their wedding photographer.
Getting ready
Brittany got ready at a family members home just outside of Norwich. First thing her and her bridesmaids nipped to a hairdressers before heading back to relax and to do their own make-up.
The Elvish Tailor at Sacred Earth in Ipswich custom made Brittany’s wedding dress. It was made of white silk and embroidered with green and gold ivy around the dress and sleeves. Brittany was barefoot (I know, cool, right?!) for the majority of the day, showing off her glorious bridal henna.
John – who adores John Lennon – wore a white suit (just as the man himself did) with a white kaftan style shirt and white converse.
The bridesmaids chose their own dresses – Brittany just asked them to wear a maxi dress and gave them free reign. Similarly, the groomsmen also chose their own suits.
The Ceremony
J &B held their ceremony in front of the marquee in the dell, with their guests sat lovingly watching from the grassy terrace rows. Brittany walked down the hill towards the ceremony to ‘Oh My Love’ by John Lennon, with John waiting for her at the bottom. The pair had a pagan hand fasting ceremony which was totally magical – the wind really got up at a poignant part of the ceremony and gave everyone goosebumps! Finally, John and Brittany jumped over the broom that she had made especially for twigs she had collected to end the ceremony. Next, they both then handed out vegan carrot cake and red wine to all their guests, to represent a wish that they would never hunger or thirst. Before then, I’d never seen that before – it’s a totally lovely thing to do, don’t ya think?
The Reception
J & B chose to have their wedding at The Keeper and The Dell as soon as they visited. A friend had recommended it a few months prior and at first look they fell in love with the place. Their reception centred around the vintage marquee in the dell – it had ivy hanging from the ceiling and across the middle beams. Similarly, lavender and gypsophila dangled from the beams which made the marquee smell divine. Tables were laid with white cloth and hessian runners.
Their wedding favours consisted of green bags with a rose quartz stone inside to represent love and clarity. At the end of Brittany’s speech she asked everyone to old their rose quartz in their hands and send a wish into the universe that their marriage will always have love and clarity in it. Dreamy hey?!
The four banqueting tables were each named after a member of The Beatles and their table plan was burnt in to a large piece of wood. Their wedding breakfast was entirely vegetarian; a tapas starter of cheese, guac, olives and delicious breads. The main was a ratatouille with tatties and desert was Norfolk Mass meringue covered in berries and cream. Ahh, writing this is making me pretty hungry now!
The Party
DJing throughout the day was the awesome Ben Marr – the soundtrack on the day was bloody on point and every song had a reference to love some way or another. The Vox Beatles played in the evening, outfits, wigs and all… Consequently, all the guests danced till they dropped. Eventually when the party was over, guests wandered up the hill to their tents and John and Brittany to their wooden cabin in the birch garden.
Above all, this bohemian was incredible. If you’re getting married and looking for a relaxed wedding photographer, find out more about what I offer here!
